Easy Runs Getting Longer

Thursdays are considered "easy" runs. They started as 2 miles, changed to 3 miles for the last couple weeks, and now they are up to 4 miles. I feel like I'm finally training now that the mileage is increasing. Anyway, tonight I ran from my house down Winton Road to Northbend and back. It is a very hilly route that I've ran twice before, once before starting with Team in Training, and once when I ran my 5 mile run. (I blogged about it a couple weeks ago.) Both times I had to stop and walk at least once. Today I ran there and back very comfortably. Not totally easy, but I definetly felt a huge improvement from the previous times when I thought I was going to die! According to my ipod I ran a total of 4.68 miles at an average pace of 8:52. Feeling good.

I've been thinking a lot about my training and possibly increasing it a little bit. The workout plan Team in Training gives is to just ensure that you make it to the finish line. And I guess I want to do a little more than that. I talked to John, my mentor, on Wednesday about his experience training with Team in Training and what he did in addition to what they give. He's freaking fast so I figured he didn't stick to just this schedule. He gave me some good ideas and I got some other ideas from a Runner's World book I have. I am definetly going to add another day of running on Sundays which I normally just strength trained. Also, on Mondays, which are my hill workouts, I am going to alternate hill workouts with track speed workouts. We'll see how it goes and if I get in over my head.
