Lost in Newport

Tonight was another great group workout. We met in Newport, KY for Coaches' Choice. We actually just ran today. They told us where to turn, where to end up, etc and then sent us on our way. And once again, there I was...alone and just a little bit behind the fast group. And then behind me quite a ways was the rest of the group. Maybe out of the 30 that were there, I would be number 7 or 8 from the front. Not bad. So I kept a good pace, not getting any farther behind from the lead group for about 10 minutes. Then I stopped at the water break to drink and ask for directions of where to go from there. I don't think anyone in the lead group even stopped for water because when I turned the corner, they were gone. And I found myself lost. I wasn't quite sure where I was supposed to turn and I am so not familiar with Newport area. So I slowed down to let the 5 or 6 people behind me catch up to try to figure out where to go. We ended up going all over the streets of Newport, asking people we passed if they had seen runners go by. Eventually we got back on track and I broke away from the group I had been running with. As I passed a few more coaches, they directed me toward the river for a cookout. The smell of hotdogs cooking helped me finish strong! (Thanks John!)

And then came my favorite part of the evening. One of my coaches came over to me and asked if I had run high school track or cross country. I started laughing and told him how horrible I had been in my one year of track. He was completely shocked and told me that he was really impressed by what he saw out there. He said he thinks I have a natural talent and with training, I should be able to do really well. It was just so encouraging!

Fundraising Update...Thanks again to all those who have already given! It means so much to think that I have your support! Last week I received about 3 or 4 donations a day and now I have raised about $600. I need to raise $2400...lots to go! And this week I have only gotten 1 donation. So if you are thinking about giving, please do! Thanks!
